Ideas for confetti/rice toss alternatives for beach wedding? - throwing rice wedding alternatives

I'm getting married on the beach and the city allows us to throw rice and rose petals after the ceremony. Has anyone other ideas of things that could start or do other things that take the place of the traditional start of the rice? I wanted to use torches, but when the sun is still not clear which apparently have less effect. Thank you!
